About the Designs“In Southern California, the seasons are merged together, they are diluted into each other; a mixture of constant Summer and Spring warmth. We do not get the colorful spectrum of Autumn leaves or the dusting of snow in Winter. Growing up I never really noticed the seasons change.
When I was 10 my family moved east about 50 miles, to Riverside, California. It was still Southern California but being inland it had a higher elevation and a drier desert-like climate. This is when I started noticing the seasons. It was still subtle, but the changes were there! Very hot in the Summer. Windy in the Fall. Chilly in the Winter. Sunny and rainy in the Spring. It was beautiful. Since then I have travelled, I’ve seen the seasons where they drastically change the landscape. Still, I love the subtle seasons we have here and they often make appearances in my artwork.
In my cufflinks I am capturing the feelings of the four seasons. The heat of the Summer sun, the windy gusts of Fall, the blooming buds of Spring and the icy cold of Winter. Each was painted to compliment the others, both in style and color. I designed them to be worn separately or as a four piece set.”
- Jeff Soto | Artist BioThrough striking visual imagery, Jeff Soto communicates profound visions and fears, nostalgia of his youth, and themes of love, lust, and hope. Soto’s distinct color palette, subject matter, technique and bold themes resonate with a growing audience. Inspired by childhood toys, the colorful lifestyle of skateboarding and graffiti, hip-hop and popular culture, Soto’s representational work is simultaneously accessible and stimulating.
Environmental issues also take precedent for Soto, who is concerned with conflict of humans trying to harness, or take advantage of nature. His paintings exude this tension, as robotic creatures duel, organic tentacles and flower bouquets thrive, and black smog looms amidst floating, ominous skulls.
In 2002, Soto graduated with Distinction from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. In 2008, “Jeff Soto: Turning in Circles” at the Riverside Art Museum marks his first solo museum exhibition. He currently lives in Southern California, with his wife Jennifer and daughter Shannon. | All Rights Reserved. © 2008-2009 Jeff Soto
